For Pre-Prosthetic Surgery in Austin and Central Texas, Visit the Surgeons at Midtown Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
If you plan to receive a denture or dental prosthesis, you may need what’s called pre-prosthetic surgery. This is surgery that helps improves the fit or comfort of your denture.
A denture rests on the bony ridge of your jaw. Sometimes a ridge has an irregular shape that may keep a denture from sitting evenly. This can be due to previous tooth extraction or surgery, from trauma, infections, or from natural bony growths. When dentures do not fit properly, they can cause irritation, discomfort, and extra folds of tissue to form.
Some of the procedures you might need to prepare you for a properly fitting denture include:
- Smoothing and reshaping bone
- Removal of excess bone
- Removal of excess gum tissue
The doctors at Midtown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery will work with you and your dentist to develop a plan that fits your individual needs. Our goal is to provide an optimal foundation that allows your future denture to fit well and feel comfortable. We will make your experience as comfortable as possible before, during and after the procedure. In most cases, we can provide in-office anesthesia to help alleviate stress and improve your experience.
